The Supervisory Interdisciplinary position may be filled under any of the listed Job Family Series. The ERDC-Hanover, NH site, currently undergoing a remedial investigation of trichloroethylene (formerly used as a refrigerant) that was released into the environment; interim actions underway to ensure a safe work environment. Responsibilities

  • Supervisory Interdisciplinary serving as the Chief, Research and Engineering Division, Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).
  • Supervise Division consisting of five technical branches spanning physical science and engineering disciplines that work together to develop and deliver transformative technology solutions in established and emerging mission areas.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Deputy Director, Center Director, and Technical Directors to provide Division personnel with the resources and business processes necessary to efficiently conduct a variety of research projects and programs.
  • Execute wide variety of business functions: financial management, business analysis and trend forecasting, strategic plan(s) development and implementation, and the integration of laboratory business functions with research processes.
  • Review and approve multi-year and long-range work plans developed by subordinate supervisors and manage the overall execution of the work plans for achieving specified goals and objectives.
  • Monitor work operations to identify and eliminate barriers and bottlenecks to improve business practice and promote team building.
  • Plan Division organizational and staffing needs, assigning duties, and reviewing and/or classifying positions.
  • Exercise the highest level of technical review in the interpretation and application of work results.
  • Assure reasonable equity in performance standards and rating techniques employed by subordinates.
  • Empower employees to support the organizational mission and goals.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below.     This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-5 (equivalent to GS-15). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, Laboratory Demonstration Project employees must have a current average performance score of at least 2.5 or equivalent (fully successful rating) for promotion consideration.

    Experience required:
    To qualify at the DB-05 grade level or equivalency, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which includes 1) applying expert technical methods across many disciplines (engineering, physical, biological, social sciences, etc.) to resolve cold regions problem sets; 2) conducting high quality, broad-based polar science research and development and reimbursable work evidenced by successful projects, authorship of professional journals, technical reports or participation in professional societies at a national level; and 3) addressing business requirements, developing funding requirements and budget estimates.
