Position Overview

The Division of Anatomy at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, OH invites applications for a full-time, one-year position (with the potential for additional yearly renewal) as a Lecturer in Anatomy for the 2026-2027 academic year. This position is well suited for a candidate who seeks a career in teaching with emphasis on classroom and laboratory anatomical sciences education. Preference will be given to applicants with prior training or experience in anatomy education.

Performance Objectives

The successful candidate will participate in the delivery of anatomical sciences to students at all levels. Responsibilities may include teaching opportunities with undergraduate, graduate and health professional students, as well as contributing to gross anatomy, embryology, histology, and neuroanatomy courses contingent on applicant’s qualifications. Additional responsibilities may include administrative duties to improve course efficiency, assist in coordinating events for the Anatomy Outreach Program and collaborating with other faculty on curriculum development within anatomy courses in a team-based environment. We seek candidates who have experience teaching diverse populations of students by creating inclusive classrooms and by utilizing innovative pedagogy. The successful applicant will also be encouraged to develop publishable scholarship related to anatomical or education facilitated by collaboration with existing Division faculty.

 Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s degree in the anatomical sciences or equivalent required. Doctorate in anatomical sciences or equivalent preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with prior training or experience in anatomy education. Evidence of familiarity with dissection-based teaching and preference with laboratory instructional experience. An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff, and administrators to develop improvement of educational experiences for our students.

 Department Information

The mission of the Division of Anatomy is to provide innovative, world-class research and educational opportunities in the Anatomic Sciences. Construction of a new Anatomy Institute at The OSUWMC was completed in January of 2022. This highly innovative and IT- enhanced space includes a new 3,750 square-foot morgue with seven independent laboratory spaces for undergraduate, graduate, medical and dental anatomy as well as specialized laboratories for undergraduate, outreach and medical and dental continuing education programming. The Anatomy Institute represented the first component of a new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center that was completed in 2024 as part of an innovative model for health sciences education, which creates an environment that fosters the experiences and opportunities necessary for individuals to grow and become tomorrow’s health care leaders.

 The new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center includes a new 59,400 square-foot Classroom Wing and back renovation of historic Hamilton Hall providing a 225,000 square-foot inter-professional learning facility composed of 33 interdisciplinary, state-of-the-art technology enhanced classrooms, 6,000 square foot student forum, 125-seat Grand Reading Room, 75-person computer center for interdisciplinary student-faculty use and numerous private study rooms and small collaboration spaces. This space also includes new office space designed to house the OSUMC Biomedical Education and Anatomy leadership, faculty and staff including specifically designed office space for Anatomy Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants. The four-story glass atrium health sciences forum overlooks a newly designed Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Quadrangle that provides an outdoor focal point that unites medical, dental, nursing, optometry, and the allied health sciences into a truly interdisciplinary health sciences campus
