Epsilon Systems is seeking a full-time SUBSAFE Foreman in Portsmouth, VA
Summary: Supervises and coordinates the activities of welders, fitters, mechanics, electricians, helpers and other trades according to installation or repair activity. Acts as liaison between customer and company.
Responsibilities:
- Recruits and trains subordinate personnel; establishes safety and work performance standards. 
- Reads and interprets ship prints, welding, piping and structural drawings, elevation, arrangement and electrical drawings. Familiar with associated welding symbols, electrical/electronic schematics, diagrams and various technical trade-specific drawing components. 
- Plans, assigns, schedules, and supervises the work of skilled and trades helper subordinates on various shipboard system repair and installation projects. 
- Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel. 
- Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance. 
- Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions. 
- Investigate accidents and injuries, and prepare reports of findings. 
- Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. 
- Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies. 
- Compile operational and personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results. 
- Prepares routine work and time reports and maintains standard records. 
- Develops, implements, and evaluates maintenance policies and procedures. 
- Examines objects, systems, or facilities, and analyzes information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs. 
- Assists program and project teams with prospective work estimates and hours needed to complete the job including material procurement, quotes and duration of project. 
- Conducts or arranges for worker training in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use. 
- Performs related work as required. 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent 
- 5 years' related ship repair work experience 
- Ability to travel 5% -10% of the time 
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance level Secret. 
- Ability to communicate effectively, work independently or in a group. 
- Ability to do basic math, ie. add, subtract, divide and multiply. 
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. 
- Must be able to obtain and maintain access to military and government installations worldwide. 
- Must be able to travel. 
ADA/Work Environment:
- Shop environment, pier side and shipboard. 
- Frequent standing, sitting, crawling, kneeling, stooping, crouching, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms. 
- Regular communication (hearing/speaking). 
- Occasional lifting up to 50+ pounds. 
- Noise conditions range from very quiet to very noisy. 
- Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (on board ships)
